What can I recycle?
Here is a basic list of items you can recycle at your curb or in your apartment along with instructions for preparation.
Metal Cans
Plastic Bottles
Glass Bottles and Jars
Mixed Mail
Newspaper/Magazines/Catalogs
Phone Books
Corrugated Cardboard

Boxboard

Metal Cans
Items to recycle: Aluminum, tin, steel and bimetal food and beverage cans.
Instructions: Rinse clean, leave labels on.

Items NOT to recycle: Aerosol cans or scrap metal. You may bring them to the Dakota County Eco-Site.


Plastic Bottles
Items to recycle: Plastic bottles with a neck (pop, milk, juice, water, detergent, shampoo bottles, etc.)
Instructions: Rinse clean. Can leave labels on. Throw away caps and pumps.

Items NOT to recycle: Styrofoam, plastic bags, ice cream pails, and plastic tubs (margarine, yogurt, etc.).


Glass Bottles and Jars
Items to recycle: Clear or colored glass bottles or jars
Instructions: Remove lid, rinse clean. Leave labels on.

Items NOT to recycle: Glass and ceramic dinnerware, drinking glasses, Pyrex glass and other cookware, glass windows or mirrors.


Mixed Mail
Items to recycle: Junk mail, envelopes (OK with windows or glossy advertising), greeting cards, letters, and office and school paper.

Items NOT to recycle: Foil lined envelopes, paper cups and plates, egg cartons, books, tissue, gift wrap


Newspaper/Magazines/Catalogs
Items to recycle: Newspapers including inserts, magazines, catalogs.
Instructions: If need be, sort in paper bags, not plastic bags.


Phone Books
Items to recycle: Phone books.
Instructions: Place phone book in recycling bin (only 1 per pickup day).

Corrugated Cardboard
Items to recycle: Corrugated cardboard.
Instructions: Needs to be broken down into bundles and tied. Call your hauler for preparation requirements. Keep separate from other materials.

Items NOT to recycle: Pizza boxes and waxed boxes


Boxboard

Items to recycle: Food boxes from the cupboard (pasta, cereal, crackers, cake mix, etc.); boxes from toothpaste, medication and other toiletries; empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls; gift and shoe boxes.

 

Items NOT to recycle: Refrigerator or freezer boxes, food soiled boxes
