Dakota County and the City of Lakeville are hosting their annual Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day on Saturday, May 2, 2020, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Lakeville Central Maintenance Facility (CMF). The drop off is open to all Dakota County Residents.

Items accepted for FREE:

  • Household hazardous waste: aerosols, antifreeze, batteries (all types), driveway sealer, fluorescent light bulbs, gasoline/fuels, household cleaners, lawn and garden products, oil and oil filters, paint, paint strippers and thinners, pesticides, propane tanks/gas cylinders, thermometers, thermostats, varnish and stains, and most things labeled: dangerous, flammable, combustible, poisonous or corrosive
  • Electronics: answering machines, cell phones, computer equipment, copiers, DVD players, game systems, hard drives, laptops, MP3/iPods, desktop printers, radios (TVs and computer monitors accepted for a fee) 
  • Small household electronics: blenders (remove jar), bread makers, cameras, clocks, coffee makers (remove carafe), electric knives, electric toothbrushes, fans, food sealing equipment, fryers, hair dryers, heaters, holiday lights/cords, irons, mixers, remotes, sewing machines, toaster ovens, vacuum cleaners (no bags) 
  • Document destruction: confidentially destroyed by document destructiona certified shredding company. Accepted items: copy/fax paper, mail, envelopes, notepad/legal paper, file folders, notes. Paper clips and staples okay

Items accepted for a fee (cash or check only)

  • Appliances ($25 per unit): air conditioners, dehumidifiers, dishwashers, freezers, furnaces, garbagemattresses disposals, heat pumps, humidifiers, ranges/stoves, refrigerators, trash compactors, washers/dryers, water heaters/softeners. Microwaves will be $10
  • Electronics ($10 per unit): TVs and computer monitors
  • Mattress/box springs ($30 each): any size or condition. NO futons or air mattresses

How to prepare for a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event:

  • Remove all batteries from electronics
  • Pack HHW in cardboard boxes so that it does not spill during transport. Be prepared to leave your container and boxes
  • Put like chemicals together. Seperate unlike chemicals
  • Label materials that are not in their original containers
  • Make sure containers are not leaking and lids are tightly sealed
  • Put your boxes in your trunk, away from passengers during transport. Remove all other items from trunk
  • At the event, trained personnel will ask you to remain in your car while they remove the HHW from your trunk. 

Items NOT ACCEPTED at this event

  • NO carpet: for disposal of carpet and carpet padding, click here
  • NO furniture: for reuse options of furniture in good condition, click here.  For disposal options, click here
  • NO ammonia-gas appliances (such as RV appliances): ammonia-power appliances can be brought to JR's Advanced Recycling for a fee. For more information, click here

  • NO tires: tires may be brought to The Recycling Zone for a small fee
  • NO scrap metal: for disposal of scrap metal, click here
  • NO business waste (including home-based businesses)

Dakota Valley Recycling

DVR is the partnership recycling department for the Cities of Apple Valley, BurnsvilleEagan and Lakeville that connects residents and businesses to recycling, composting and waste disposal information.

DVR is not a drop off facility and does not accept any materials for recycling.
