Electronics Are
                   Hazardous Waste

Businesses in Dakota County are required by Ordinance Number 111 to handle electronics as a hazardous waste.  Electronics are defined as computers, monitors, printers, photocopiers, FAX machines, telephone equipment, cellular telephones, TV’s, and anything else containing a circuit board.

Electronics contain hazardous materials that should be handled properly by recycling instead of throwing them in the trash where they could cause harm to our health and environment.  For example, cathode ray tubes (CRTs), which are found in computer monitors and televisions, are considered the single largest source of lead in Minnesota's municipal waste. Each unit contains 2 to 8 pounds of lead! When lead and other heavy metals leach out of landfills, they can contaminate drinking water sources.

Listed below are local electronics consolidators registered by Dakota County for collection of business electronics for recycling.
